A Message From The Chief

As we reflect on 2024, I am incredibly proud of the progress and growth we've experienced at the Nicholasville Police Department. This past year marked a significant milestone for our agency as we welcomed six new positions authorized by the Nicholasville City Commission. We were fortunate to fill these roles with an outstanding group of recruits we proudly call the Magnificent 7.
By the end of 2024, our department had grown to 73 full-time sworn officers and one part-time officer. Looking ahead to the next fiscal year, we anticipate adding six additional positions, bringing out department to 79 authorized, full-time sworn officers - the largest in our agency's history.
Beyond expanding our sworn ranks, we were also pleased to add two vital civilian positions; a Social Worker and a Victim's Advocate. These roles are already proving to be invaluable assets to our department and our community. Our officers routinely respond to complex situations where specialized resources are needed. The addition of our Social Worker and Victim's Advocate helps bridge the gap between law enforcement services and the broader needs of our community - ensuring people receive the support and care they deserve.
Community engagement continues to be at the heart of our mission. In 2024, we introduced several new initiatives such as the NPD Car Show, the Neon Bike Ride & Exchange, and we proudly continue long-standing programs like the Citizens Police Academy, Coffee with a Cop, and our popular Copsicle program. These events allow us to build relationships, foster trust, and strengthen our connection with those we serve.
As we move into 2025, one of our highest priorities is officer wellness. Our ability to serve this community with excellence depends on ensuring our officers are supported, healthy, and resilient. We are actively pursuing grant funding to enhance officer wellness initiatives. Our goals include reducing barriers to mental health services, fostering a supportive culture within the department, developing a proactive approach to address stress and trauma, and providing resources not only for our officers but for their families as well.
We are committed to building partnerships with wellness professionals, mindfulness and resiliency providers, nutritionists, and counselors to ensure our officers have the tools they need - both personally and professionally - to thrive.
As Chief of Police, I remain dedicated to making the Nicholasville Police Department a place where our employees are valued, supported, and empowered to serve with compassion, fairness, and professionalism. Together, we will continue to move forward, building trust, fostering community relationships, and providing the highest level of service to the citizens of Nicholasville.
Thank you for your continued support.
Chief Michael A. Fleming
