SPECIALITY UNITS
The Nicholasville Police Department has a number of different specialty units. These units are made up of officers and staff from different divisions across the department. The men and women on these specialty units have received additional specialize training in order to be a part of these units.

Bike Patrol
The Bike Patrol unit provides first hand police services in areas like residential neighborhoods, public housing, business districts, commercial districts, parks, and recreational areas. All officers on bike patrol have completed a certified police cyclist course.

Special Response Team (SRT)
NPD's Special Response Team (SRT) is activated during hazardous tactical situations like barricaded persons and hostage situations. These officers have received specialized training and keep their skills sharp by participating in regular training exercises throughout the year. Officers on this team are on call and respond as necessary.

Collision Reconstruction Team (CRT)
The Collision Reconstruction Team (CRT) investigates motor vehicle collisions that involve life threatening injury, significant property damage, or fatality. This team operates on an on call basis and responds when necessary.

Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT)
The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) works in conjunction with the Special Response Team in order to establish a clear line of communication in hostage/barricade situations. Members of this team receive specialized training and participate in SRT training exercises throughout the year. This team is on call and responds as necessary.

School Resource Officers (SROs)
School Resource Officers (SROs) represent a law enforcement presence on Jessamine County Schools' campuses. Their priority is to prevent crime by and against students. Additionally, SROs conduct crime prevention programs, serve as an educational resource, help refer students and families to community resources not otherwise available and guide students in solving problems.

Honor Guard
NPD's honor guard ensures that appropriate respect is afforded to those individuals (living and deceased) who are deserving of the dignity that the Honor Guard can bestow. The honor guard consists of sworn personnel only. They participate in training 6 training sessions per year plus informal formal sessions prior to each scheduled function.
