School Resource Officers (SROs)

 - More than just enforcement.

The School Resource Officer Program is a partnership between Jessamine County Schools and the Nicholasville Police Department. The program began in 2009 in order to reduce and prevent crime by and against students, by and against faculty, and others, committed primarily in or in connection with the Jessamine County Schools. There are dedicated SROs on all school campuses in Jessamine County.

The program has grown over time and is no longer meant just for crime prevention and reduction. SROs are educational resources to students, connecting students to community partners as needed, and often times serving in mentorship roles to help students solve problems.

The 2025-2026 school year was a year of tremendous growth for the SRO program. The Jessamine County Sheriff's Office and Wilmore Police Department each contributed a sworn officer to come alongside NPD in partnership to help serve the school community. Sergeant Clint Newton oversees the SRO program.

"I serve as the School Resource Officer supervisor and am always available to assist students, parents, and staff. Please don't hesitate to reach out if I can help in any way. I look forward to a great school year!"

- Sgt. Clint Newton
