NEW BEGINNINGS & A WELL-EARNED FAREWELL

One career begins. Another career is celebrated.

OFFICER KENNON KEMP

Officer Kennon Kemp recently graduated from the Department of Criminal Justice Training’s Basic Class 572. During the academy, Officer Kemp served as his class’s Squad Leader, demonstrating leadership and commitment throughout his training.

Officer Kemp now begins his career with the Nicholasville Police Department, bringing the training and leadership experience he gained at the academy into service to our community.

DETECTIVE JACOB JONES

Detective Jacob Jones retired from the Nicholasville Police Department on September 1, 2026, following more than 21 years of service to the department and the Nicholasville community.

After more than two decades of service, NPD thanks Detective Jones for his dedication to the department and the Nicholasville community and wishes him all the best in retirement.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS (SROs)

More than just enforcement.

The School Resource Officer Program is a partnership between Jessamine County Schools and the Nicholasville Police Department. The program began in 2009 in order to reduce and prevent crime by and against students, by and against faculty, and others, committed primarily in or in connection with the Jessamine County Schools. There are dedicated SROs on all school campuses in Jessamine County.

The program has grown over time and is no longer meant just for crime prevention and reduction. SROs are educational resources to students, connecting students to community partners as needed, and often times serving in mentorship roles to help students solve problems.

The 2025-2026 school year was a year of tremendous growth for the SRO program. The Jessamine County Sheriff's Office and Wilmore Police Department each contributed a sworn officer to come alongside NPD in partnership to help serve the school community. Sergeant Clint Newton oversees the SRO program.
