We don't know about you, but we sure felt like this Summer went by fast! It started off strong by graduating the 5th grade classes at Warner, Brookside, Red Oak, Rosenwald Dunbar, and Nicholasville Elementaries from the DARE program. Shout out to Community Services Officers King and Jackson, Principals, 5th grade teachers and students! Speaking of DARE, in June, we hosted NPD's 2nd Annual Car Show! All proceeds from the event go to support the DARE program. NPD also helped kick off Summer by volunteering at the Taste of Jessamine event held at the R.J. Corman hanger. Code Enforcement Coordinator Sandy Horton baked up a delicious cheesecake dessert to share with those in attendance.

Also in June, NPD held our first ever Youth Academy for middle and high school students. The aim of the Youth Academy is to provide education about law enforcement as well as teach life skills. For example, our youth learned about gun safety, the fatal vision impaired driving program as well as small engine maintenance and basic cooking skills. The School Resource Officers (SROs) were the leadership for this program and it couldn't have happened without them!

July featured Copsicle pop-ups all over town! When the sun was shining, the Copsicle was out sharing frozen treats out and about our neighborhoods and at scheduled events. A Cram the Cruiser event was held at Nicholasville's Walmart where we encouraged citizens to pack our cruiser full of school supplies for the upcoming school year. The Family Resource Center Directors from several schools also participated in this event. And yes...the Copsicle was there! NPD also partnered with Dairy Queen for a "Cone with a Cop" event! All kids age 12 and under could receive a free small ice cream cone from an officer. Officer Johnson seems to have mastered the ice cream machine because his cones were the best. Think he'll be requesting "ice cream team" as his special duty assignment?

In August NPD co-hosted "National Night Out" along side Nicholasville - Jessamine County Parks and Recreation. The event was held at Lake Mingo and it was one big neighborhood party! Free food, vendors, giveaways, a rock climbing wall, and foam party just to name a few! We had a great time hanging out with Nicholasville's residents and hope to make next year's event even bigger!

What's next? We have our Fall calendar full of events so stay tuned! We look forward to seeing you out and about in the community!
