October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
In Kentucky, 45.3% of women and 35.5% of men will experience domestic violence and/or stalking during their lifetime. The Nicholasville Police Department responds to domestic violence related calls every day. These types of scenes are especially dangerous for all involved due to the heightened emotions, unpredictability, and potential for weapons. In addition to officers, NPD also employs a Victim's Advocate. Her name is Samantha Potter and she works with victims of domestic violence. Samantha's primary goal is to educate, support, and empower victims in the decisions related to their individual circumstances. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence and needs help, please reach out to Samantha at (859) 885-9467.
How can citizens show support for Domestic Violence Awareness? Thursday, 10/16/25 is Purple Thursday! The color purple represents power, independence, authenticity, empathy, and courage. Please wear your best PURPLE on 10/16/25 to bring awareness to domestic violence! Tag Nicholasville Police Department in your pictures - we want to see your PURPLE!
